Save Money and Time When Getting Your Pool Ready for Summer with These Tips

With the weather warming up here in coastal South Carolina and around the country, many homeowners are starting to get their swimming pools ready for summer. Here in the Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, SC area, we are lucky enough to see warmer weather earlier in spring which means many backyard pools will see the covers come off sooner rather than later.

With that being the case, we wanted to share some tips for opening your swimming pool up for the swimming season. Because most owners already know the step-by-step instructions for preparing your pool for summer, we’re going to skip the redundancy of putting together another list. Instead, we’ll share three tips which can make your life easier when getting your pool ready this year – tips which can save you money and time.

If you do need guidance on what exact steps you should take to prepare you swimming pool for summer, please do not hesitate to contact us here at New Wave Pools.

Cleaning the Pool Deck and Removing the Cover

Now, this may seem like common sense, but everyone has probably made this mistake at least once before. Start the swimming season by cleaning your pool deck and removing any broken items (chairs, tables, etc.).

But before you begin pressure washing with chemical cleaners or blowing off leaves and debris, do not remove your pool cover. Admit it, you’ve made this mistake before and ended up pulling double-duty and had to clean the leaves and debris you just removed from your pool deck out of your swimming pool. Save yourself some time and headaches and remove your pool cover after you clean the pool deck.

Repair Pool Equipment or Replace Pool Equipment

Before opening your pool for the summer, take inventory of the state of your pool equipment. Is everything in working order? If not, do you want to repair what is broken, or should you shell out more money to replace your broken pool equipment.

Here’s a hint: You should consider replacing your old swimming pool equipment. Why should you spend more money for new equipment? As we mention in another pool questions blog post, it makes sense to replace your pool heater, pumps, lights, controls, etc. with newer, energy-efficient pool equipment. You will receive a larger return on investment by saving money on power bills, pool equipment repairs and maintenance, and you may also qualify for tax credits or rebates.

The Big Decision – Is it Time for a Pool Renovation?

Sometimes pool owners are faced by much larger issues than just broken lights or a non-functioning pump when they start getting their pool ready for summer. What if it looks like your pool needs resurfacing? What if you have cracks in your concrete pool or your pool deck is in disrepair?

Many homeowners dread the decision to pay for a swimming pool renovation. But there is a bright side to this seemingly dark cloud. Deciding on a high-quality pool renovation prior to swimming season will not only ensure your pool is safe and ready for summer, but it can also put money in your pocket by increasing the value of your home and reducing pool maintenance costs. Contact us here at New Wave Pools and we will be glad to explain how.
